Planning Democracy Forum
Planning Democracy is holding a forum of community organisations opposed to the Vic Government's planning proposals.
Time & Location
08 Feb 2025, 11:00 am – 1:00 pm
Melbourne City Library, The Majorca Room, 253 Flinders Ln, Melbourne VIC 3000, Australia
About the event
Resident and community voices will be side-lined in planning decisions by the Victorian Government’s 'Housing Statement' and Suburban Rail Loop policies, and its 'Plan for Victoria' may do the same.
The government hopes stripped-back planning controls and removing objection rights from residents will encourage private developers to build more housing. But residents, ratepayers and heritage groups believe these are bad policies. They'll create less liveable neighbourhoods and won't solve the housing crisis. We know community voices help make new housing successful, sustainable and affordable. This forum will allow us to hear about each other's campaigns to stop bad development and how they aim to influence planning decisions. Everyone is invited to give a brief talk about their plans and experience. The forum will find out if there are ideas and/or strategies we can use, collectively or independently.
